Outcomes
Outcome 1 - Generating Inquiry
Outcome 2 - Information Literacy
Outcome 3 - Research Genre Production
Outcome 4 - Contributing Knowledge
Outcome 5 - Revision
Outcome 6 - Multiple Ways of Writing
Outcome 2
Information literacy is the evaluation and action on criteria when presenting secondary and primary information. When it comes to information literacy, artifacts that correlate with this include, Writing Project 1 and Sharing OUR Methods and Research Questions.
These assignments fit the criteria because they demonstrate how students are able to engage and evaluate research. Writing Project 1 involves the process of deep analysis of sources used for the required research project for students. Sharing OUR Methods and Research Questions also delves into how students participate in collecting their sources and being able to elaborate on them well enough for their research projects. These assignments were impactful for me because at first, I didn't really know what I could talk about within them. However, I was able to find a good research proposal topic that highly interested me. Another reason why Writing Project 1 was impactful for me is because it gave me an opportunity to discuss a topic that I’m interested in and expand on it with sources.
Outcomes 1 & 2
Outcome 1
Generating inquiry requires more than just simply asking “What is rhetoric?” an inquiry-based approach would answer questions such as, “What role does language play in forming identity?” Artifacts include Genre Discussion and Examining a Student Example (part 1) within Minor Assignments.
Genre Discussion within Minor Assignments in which I was meant to engage on how I perceived a certain research proposal and an annotated bibliography. Examining a Student Example (part 1), because this assignment was meant to closely explore a project that is meant to showcase an example for other students on what they're supposed to do for their research proposal. This conveys a sense of deeper meaning when analyzing language and asking questions to understand depth further. These are the most significant assignments for me that fit the criteria because they represent inquiring about language and analysis. Genre Discussion was particularly impactful for me because it required me to understand the depth of genres.
Outcome 3
Artifacts that fit the criteria for research genre production include "Analyzing the Genre: Model Analysis 2," and "Genre Discussion.”
Outcomes 3 & 4
These assignments align with the criteria because they require students to discuss and analyze genres in depth.
The assignment titled "Analyzing the Genre: Model Analysis 2" was particularly meaningful to me, as it involved analyzing a topic I am passionate about. In this assignment, I examined how an article effectively conveys the significance of its lesson to the audience while addressing a societal issue. Similarly, the "Genre Discussion" assignment encouraged students to explore specific aspects of a genre, create an annotated bibliography, and develop a research proposal.
These assignments meet the criteria because they both require students to contribute knowledge to fulfill the objectives of each task.
Regarding "Discussing 'Standardized Content Analysis in Communication Research'," this assignment was particularly impactful because it challenged me to analyze and contribute my insights to an article. I also found "Anne Lamont SFD Questions" meaningful, as it required me to analyze and interpret information from an article while incorporating my own perspective in creating a first draft with various pieces of writing.
Outcome 4
Assignments that fit into the criteria of contributing knowledge, include "Discussing 'Standardized Content Analysis in Communication Research'" and "Anne Lamont SFD Questions."
Outcomes 5 & 6
Outcome 5
Artifacts that fit the criteria for outcome 5 and how students were able to learn about revision include, "Hey Gang, Let's Talk Peer Review," and "Writing Project 2."
"Hey, Let's Talk Peer Review," fits the criteria because this assignment required me to assess how I perceive peer review and how meaningful it can be. An example of this includes a quote from my ressponse to the assignment, “Meaningful peer response praise will help when revising my writing because it will give me more confidence to revise and edit.” When it comes to "Writing Project 2," this project was basically centered around revision, in which I had to have 3 drafts of this project. These assignments were particularly impactful for me because the peer review assignment was something I've never done before, in which I talked about how I perceived peer revision. In regards to "Writing Project 2," I wasn't used to formatting this project and what was asked of me, but since I was able to write something that was relatively decent, that's why it is impactful for me.
Outcome 6
"Writing Project 3," and "Project 3 Planning Discussion," fit the criteria for multiple ways of writing.
These assignments fit the criteria for exploring different forms of writing because they required me to adapt my argument from "Writing Project 2" into a new medium. The planning discussion helped me understand the medium I wanted to use, while "Project 3" was the final product. These assignments were meaningful because they gave me a chance to prepare and learn how to incorporate the genre into "Writing Project 3." This was impactful because, while I had never used this medium to make an argument before, I was familiar with it from my experience with digital illustration in high school using Photoshop.
